Detroit MC Danny Brown chopped it up with GQ for the September issue of the magazine, and revealed what he thinks makes his hometown such a hotbed for good music, how his eccentricities influence his style and even how one fan's oral support changed his entire outlook on performing.

The Fool's Gold signee, whose third studio album, Old, comes out Sept. 30, started off by talking about what sets Detroit apart from bigger, busier cities like New York.

"In New York, you go out every day and do sh-t. Detroit, you stay in the house for days," Brown told the fashion magazine. "I think it's what makes us experimental. You're trapped inside and bored. My new album is very emotional. It's a party album, but it's dark. You gotta see Detroit as what it is: The city that made Juan Atkins, same city that made Jack White, same city that made Eminem," he added.

The 32-year-old has brought a new and different type of spirit to hip hop, and that desire to zig when others zag applies to his style as well. He's become almost as famous for his gap-tooth smile, schizophrenic hair and unapologetic free spirit as he is for his lyrical ability.

"I don't wanna be like nobody else. I don't wanna sound like nobody, I don't wanna look like nobody," proclaimed Brown. "If someone else got shoes I like before me, then I just wouldn't get 'em," he added.

Brown also addressed that infamous incident from a show that took place earlier this summer. The XXX MC allowed the title of his sophomore LP to come to life when a fan decided to show her appreciation by performing oral sex on him during his set.

"I like to have fun, but that changed my shows," Brown said, "Now the crowd is too far away. The crowd being 20 feet from me is not fun."
