Director Teases Brandy’s Possible Return in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sequel
Brandy Norwood might be headed back into scream queen roots, but fans will have to head to theaters to find out.
The sequel—not a reboot—to the 1997 slasher classic “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is set to hit theaters on July 18. With legacy acts Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. confirmed to return, many fans wondered if Brandy would reprise her role as Karla Wilson, one of the few survivors in the 1998 cult classic “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is keeping things under wraps, but when asked directly if the Grammy-winning singer will appear, she told People, ”You’ll have to go see the movie.”
Robinson, however, did reveal that “We have one really, really fantastic nod to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer that people are going to love.” Whether that nod includes Karla herself remains a mystery—for now.

Robinson and co-writers Leah McKendrick and Sam Lansky approached the story “like super fans” and promised, “All the things that you want to see in this movie, you’re going to see in this movie.”
Being among the few Black girls in late-‘90s horror flicks, Brandy’s return would mark a massive moment for the franchise.
Last year, while talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Almost Doesn’t Count” singer revealed that she’d be down to revisit the role.
“I need them to give me a call because I survived in that movie! I came out in the end, bloodied up, ready to go. I did not die in that film,” she shared before adding, “Jennifer, Freddie, hit me up.”
“I Know What You Did Last Summer” lands in theaters on July 18.
