Tina Knowles Brags On Her Daughters And Reveals That Beyoncé Was Bullied As A Kid

The 70-year-old mother and grandmother said, "I’m getting emotional talking about it."

Tina Knowles aka Mama Tina, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles’s mother recently sat down with Vogue. she shared her favorite memories of her children, including her bonus daughter, Destiny’s Child member and Bey’s bestie, Kelly Rowland. And in that interview, Knowles revealed a shocker: Beyoncé had bullies!

“Beyoncé, she was very shy and she got bullied a bit but the day that she stood up for someone—she didn’t stand up for herself she stood up for them. I’m getting emotional talking about it. I was just, I couldn't have been more proud of her,” Mama Tina recalled.

And the pride doesn’t stop there. Mama Tina has an embarrassment of fond memories of her daughters. Solange has always been an activist, even as a tot. “She was only in like fifth grade and she was out getting petitions signed,” Knowles shared of Solange's need to fight for the rights of people at a young age.

And young Kelly, she was the protector. Mama Tina told Vogue, "I have a memory of her with her best friend Barbara and her being a mediator and just being this little peacemaker.”

What a privilege to raise such beautiful, powerful, generous and soulful Black women! Mama Tina posted a portion of the interview where she recalls these memories of her girls on Instagram. She captioned the video:

“Each child is different! But all so special. I believe kids are born with their personalities. My three girls All handled things very differently. Learn their personalities and respect the individuality. Never compare the negatives, always praise the positive differences and pay attention to the things that you can brag on about them. They love it and it encourages positive behavior.”
