Amerie Reveals She’s Separated From Her Husband: “I’m Going Through A Divorce”

The songstress shared with Angela Yee she’s been separated from her husband since 2023.

Amerie has been on a resurgence tour this year with the singer dropping a new record entitled ‘Mine’ and appearing on NPR’s Tiny Desk this past month.

The singer was even featured throughout the BET Awards weekend, performing during the BETExperience as well as the ‘106 & Park’ medley during the actual show.

While everything may seem smooth on the surface, the 45-year-old ‘1 Thing’ singer recently revealed she's going through a divorce after 19 years of marriage to Lenny Nicholson.

In a joint interview with Muni Long for Angela Yee’s radio show, Yee mentioned how the ‘More Than Love’ singer has been “locked in” for a long time, to which Amerie’s response surprised the host.

“I was but not now. I’m getting a divorce,” she shockingly revealed to Yee.

“We’re going through the divorce, but we’ve been separated since 2023.”

Yee’s cohost, Jasmine from The Jasmine Brand, followed-up and inquired if the songwriter is looking forward to dating and about her life after divorce, to which Amerie shared that she’s still “figuring it out.”

The actress first spoke about this on The Joe Budden Podcast, mentioning how she felt like a “22-year-old” going into her single era at this time and is unsure how to navigate it.

During the conversation, co-host Melyssa Ford shared a tip with the R&B star to get her started on her single journey.

“Be very intentional about what you want,” Ford expressed.

“Think about it and write it down. Keep adding to it.”
