Nike-Vick Relationship Misunderstood, Sports Apparel Co. Says
ESPN reported Thursday that Nike actually does not have a "contractual relationship" with Michael Vick, despite earlier information from the quarterback's agent to the contrary.
Nike explained the discrepancy in a statement Thursday, noting that it has merely "agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike.
Michael Principe, the managing director of Vick’s agency, BEST, announced the Philadelphia Eagles player had a new deal with Nike. "He actually just became a Nike client," Principe said Wednesday. "He has a new deal with Nike that we're all very pleased about.
Nike, which signed Vick as a rookie in 2001, terminated his contract in August 2007 after he filed a plea agreement admitting his involvement in a dogfighting ring.
