I know this is a film blog, but when I saw this clip I thought it was a fake commercial for a new Wayans Brothers movie! Lo and behold, it's real footage of people plucked and bothered that Popeye's had the good-golly nerve to run out of chicken. They were bamboozled by false advertising thinking they would get some greasy, artery-clogging chicken for a $4.99 special. One woman cried, "You mean to tell me we can't feed our kids!" Well, there is always a grocery store and an oven at home.\r
A man somberly adds, "We've been looking forward to this day... " They are acting as if President Barack Obama was going to be there handing out biscuits! I love Popeye's like everyone else -- but come on now!\r
Seriously, what I find most interesting is how much airtime the news station gave this story -- over two minutes! Most news stories are thirty seconds to a minute, but let Black folks get angry over chicken and this deserves a "special feature."\r
Also, were there any non-Black people who were mad at no chicken? Plenty of Whites and Latinos love Popeye's!\r
Honestly, I think someone should do a documentary on Popeye's Chicken -- those things must have crack in them to go through chicken withdrawals at the drive thru.\r
