Filmmaker Says Kanye West Ripped Him Off

Gaspar Noé accuses Yeezy of copying sequence for “All of the Lights” music video.

An acclaimed filmmaker says Kanye West copied his work in the Hype Williams-directed music video for “All of the Lights.”

Speaking with the Daily Beast, Gaspar Noé opened up for the first time about the similarities between Yeezy’s 2011 video and his 2009 film, Enter the Void. Both films have title sequences that are virtually identical, though Noé was never consulted by the Chicago rapper.

The Daily Beast describes Noé as becoming “irritated” when asked of West’s accused plagiarism, while he goes on to admonish Williams over his part in the project. “The director [Williams] was someone else who ripped off the titles to my movie,” said Noé.

“I was more shocked by the fact that that guy who copied all the typography of my titles put his name in it — Hype Williams — when you never usually see a director’s name in a music video,” he continued. “He was putting his name on it over and over! It was so weird that he was not only copying it, but adding his name into the credits over and over again.”

Noé added that certain art attracts imitators. “If you put any idea out there that’s kind of flashy, you have many, many people that are going to be copying it. This happens whether you do movies, paintings or music.”

West has faced rumors like these before. Earlier this month, Rhyemfest revealed that he’s been a ghostwriter on almost all of the 21-time Grammy winner’s albums. is your No. 1 source for Black celebrity news, photos, exclusive videos and all the latest in the world of hip hop and R&B music.
