The Medley Wins Big at 2015 Soul Train Awards

Babyface, Jill Scott, R. Kelly and Baduru sing the classics.

Timeless music was center stage at this year's Soul Train Awards, where Jill Scott and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds were honored.

In addition to the awards –– like Jidenna, Mr. "Classic Man" himself, repping for the next generation with his Best New Artist win –– Scott, Babyface, R. Kelly and Erykah Badu were among the performers to run through a reminder of the songs that made them dinner table names in households everywhere.

Baduru, for example, was so seriously on point in her role as host, she didn't even miss a beat amid her performances, when Tyrone –- yes, that one –– interrupted to say, "No disrespect, you need to keep my name out your mouth... I been picking people up and drivin' them to their momma's house for 18 years."

SOUL TRAIN AWARDS: WINNER'S CIRCLE

Scott, who was honored with the first-ever Lady of Soul Award, showed gratitude to the crowd before setting into her string of hits like, "A Long Walk." "Thank you for treating me with respect," she said, "because I earned it and I like it.

Babyface, who was given the Legend Award, was joined by Tevin Campbell (with "Can We Talk"), Brandy (with "Sittin' Up In My Room"), Fantasia (with Karyn White's "Superwoman"), Bobby Brown (with "Tenderoni"), and Boyz II Men (with "End of the Road"), who all delivered renditions of songs he'd written/produced, before he took the stage solo (flanked by dancers) with his "Whip Appeal."

Kellz, the king of The Medley, then closed out the show in his version of all-white everything fashion and performances of such favorites as "Step In The Name of Love," "Bump and Grind" and "Bounce."

The key to making such classics? "Try to be honest," Babyface said in the post-show interview with Wendy Raquel Robinson.
