2025 NAACP Image Awards: Damon Wayans’ ‘Poppa’s House’ Performance Dominates the Competition

The Hollywood veteran is officially in the winner’s circle.

Damon Wayans is officially an NAACP Image Award winner! 

The veteran comedian won the trophy for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series at the 56th annual ceremony, which was hosted by comedian, actor, and writer Deon Cole.  

Wayans won for his role in “Poppa’s House,” the CBS sitcom where he stars opposite his real-life son and fellow nominee, Damon Wayans Jr. The win marks a major milestone in the star’s decades-long career, following six previous nominations and culminating in his first victory tonight.

Graciously accepting the award, Wayans kept it light and heartfelt, thanking his family, fans, and the NAACP for the honor while also giving a shout-out to fellow nominees such as “In Living Color” co-star David Alan Grier.

Beating out a stacked category that included Cedric The Entertainer (The Neighborhood), Delroy Lindo (UnPrisoned), Mike Epps (The Upshaws), and Grier (St. Denis Medical), Wayans’ victory solidifies his status as a comedy legend.
