2023 NAACP Image Awards: Brent Faiyaz is Shaking up R&B with These Outstanding Tracks From His ‘Wasteland’ Album

Do you think the rising r&b singer has what it takes to win “Outstanding Male Artist.”

The singer Brent Faiyaz is one of the newest artists shaking up the r&b scene. In 2016, the DMV native generated a significant buzz following his appearance on GoldLink’s single "Crew" alongside Shy Glizzy. The attention was enough to earn a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and fans haven’t stopped buzzing about him since.

This year the rising musician is up for an NAACP Image Awards nomination for ”Outstanding Male Artist” thanks to his effort on his second studio album, Wasteland. The 27-year-old is up against many notable entertainers, including Chris Brown, Burna Boy, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar. Ahead of the biggest celebration in Black Hollywood, check out how Brent Faiyaz is shaking up r&b with these outstanding tracks from his latest release, Wasteland.

  • “Gravity” with DJ Dahi feat. Tyler, the Creator

Brent teams up with the wicked talented rapper Tyler, the Creator, for one the most standout tracks from his Wasteland project, who contribute vocals on soulful inspired January 2021 single. The song ultimately peaked at number 26 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

  • “Wasting Time” feat. Drake and The Neptunes

Brent has earned a name for himself as the toxic face of r&b. However, he hasn’t let the label curb his focus on being a megastar, tapping Canadian rap star Drake for his smash record “Wasting Time.”

The song finds the two talking about wanting to spend more time with their respective lovers. The record was produced by music veterans Pharrell Williams and  Chad Hugo, better known as the legendary producing duo The Neptunes.

  • “All Mine”

Released in June 2022, “All Mine” finds the rapper only seemingly making matters worse as he tries to win his lover back. Standing as an example of Brent’s artistry, “All Mine” is written and produced by the singer and is the only track on the project composed without the help of other writers or producers.

Watch the NAACP Image Awards live on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 8:00 pm ET/PT on BET.
