5 Children, Including 1-Year-Old Twins, Killed In Ohio House Fire
Five, young siblings from Youngstown, Ohio, were identified by a coroner’s office as the victims who were killed in a house fire on Sunday night.
According to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, 9-year-old Aleysha Rosario, 3-year-old Charles Gunn, 2-year-old Ly’Asia Gunn and 1-year-old twins Brianna and Arianna Negron did not make it out of the fire.
The victims’ mother, America “Amy” Negron-Acevedo, survived the horrific fire after jumping from the second floor window, Youngstown Fire Department Captain Kurt Wright told the Daily Journal.
Acevedo, who was naked and bleeding when she escaped the blaze, is undergoing treatment for several critical burns and injuries related to smoke inhalation, reported WFMJ.
The tragedy began around 11:30 p.m., neighbor Deborah Rivera told The Youngstown Vindicator. Rivera said she heard a loud noise and saw the fire erupt, which led her to dial 911.
Two of the children were pronounced dead on the scene, while the others were pronounced dead at the St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Acevedo’s nephew Edgar Daniel Negron has created a GoFundMe for the family’s funeral and medical costs.
According to WFMJ-TV, the mother and her five children had only moved into the house about six months ago. Two firefighters were injured in the blaze, which roared out of the first floor windows.
Aaron Baldwin, Acevedo’s neighbor, told AP the fire was “the worst thing you have to see.”
A memorial for the children has been erected outside the scorched home. Members of the community have placed flowers, toys, and teddy bears on the site.
At this time the fire remains under investigation, but officials say there’s no sign that the blaze was suspicious, the Associated Press reported.
