Ice Cube Inks Deal for Fourth ‘Friday’ Movie

The legendary rapper and filmmaker reunites with Warner Bros. and New Line for the first ‘Friday’ movie in over 20 years.

It’s finally happening. After years of fan demand, behind-the-scenes delays, and public back-and-forth, Ice Cube has officially closed a deal with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to write and star in “Last Friday,” the long-awaited fourth installment in the Friday movie franchise.

New Line president and chief creative officer Richard Brener confirmed the deal in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, with Variety backing up the news. This marks the first Friday film in over two decades, following 2002’s “Friday After Next.”

Cube, who starred in and penned each of the three original “Friday” films, has long been vocal about wanting to bring the franchise back. The turning point came in 2024 when he revealed there was fresh “traction” for the movie under the new Warner Bros. film leadership of Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy.

“They have new leadership: my man Mike De Luca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first ‘Friday’ and ‘Players Club’ and ‘All About the Benjamins.’ Mike De Luca was there,” Ice Cube said last June on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show “Flavor of the Week.”

Plot details for “Last Friday” remain under wraps, but Cube’s return signals a return to the franchise's roots. However, it doesn’t appear that everyone is sold. One X user wrote, “I’ll believe it when I see an official trailer and it's slated for release by the theaters.”

For now, only time will tell if this long-awaited sequel will finally make it to the big screen.
