Usher Pays Tribute to ‘Hero’ and Drummer to the Stars, Aaron Spears
Usher is paying tribute to longtime friend and drummer to the stars, Aaron Spears. The musician, known for working with artists including Ariana Grande, Lil Wayne, Justin Beiber, and more, passed away recently.
“I cry, tears of joy, looking back at all of the memories we had together, I realize that you were the joy in every room you were in,” Usher penned in a heartfelt caption on Instagram, accompanied by several photos and clips of the duo.“We should not take life for granted or the people we love most as though they’re gonna be there forever,” he added.

“There are good people and then there are great people. Aaron Spears was great!! As a father, a son and in spirit,” he continued. The “Good, Good” crooner shared that the Grammy-nominated musician “was one of my heros. He motivated me to do more, musically. Them drum rolls and that pocket was like none other. He had a heart that was pure...he wished people well and supported others. “
Usher concluded his post, writing, “I cry these tears of joy daily, wishing I could pick up the phone and hear your voice one last time. We always said I love you before hangin up. I'm gonna miss you man!! Rest in power brother. Love U.”
News of Spears’ death was announced by his now-widow, Jessica Spears, and their son, August, last month.
“It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that I share the news of the passing of my beloved husband, Aaron Spears,” she wrote in a heartbreaking Instagram note on Monday, (Oct 30. )
“His love, guidance, and warmth were the pillars of our family, and his absence leaves a void that words cannot describe. We were blessed to have him in our lives, and his legacy will live on through the beautiful rhythms he created and the love he shared with us […],” the post continued.
At this time, the family “ask for privacy as we work our way through this.” Spears' cause of death is still unknown. He was 47 years old.
