Tupac Shakur’s 'All Eyez On Me' Biopic Finally Has an Official Release Date

The film has been in the works for years.

Back in April 2016, it was reported that the cast of the highly anticipated biopic highlighting the career of Tupac Shakur finally wrapped up filming. However, as the production company later discovered, at that point, the battle was only halfway won.

After months of speculation about whether the biopic, titled All Eyez on Me, would ever see the light of day, the production company has shared some truly exciting news today (Jan. 17).

As reported, the film not only has a release date, but it's one that Tupac fans will especially appreciate: the rapper's birthday.

According to the reports, Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment has newly acquired the U.S. rights to the film and the movie will be released in theaters on June 16, a day that would have been Tupac's 46th birthday.

The news of the film's release date comes five years after the idea first was conceived and several key players, such as the movie's original director, Antoine Fuqua, had left the project. In addition to other setbacks, All Eyes on Me also was hit with a steep $10 million lawsuit back in 2015, which currently remains ongoing.

While the long-awaited biopic has already received its fair share of criticism, at least now we'll be able to experience the story that the Benny Boom-directed film is telling with our own eyes.
