Case of the Psycho Ex: New Study Says You Really Are Crazy for Staying Friends After a Break-up

Research reveals that people with dark personalities are likely to stay friends with an ex.

To stay friends with an ex after a rough break up is usually extremely discouraged. However, no matter how hard some of us try, we just can’t seem to let go on that special person who had our backs. Well now some scientists are claiming that wanting to remain friends with an ex may reveal that you actually have psychopathic tendencies.

Psychologists at Oakland University performed two studies with 860 individuals in order to explore that complicated area between lovers and friends. Although the study shows that many people are interested in remaining friends for strictly harmless reasons, they also revealed that many people decide remain friends with exes as a way to possibly trade desirable resources (money, sex, opportunities, etc.).

One of the most interesting aspects of the study revealed that certain personality traits can determine how likely someone is to desire a post break-up friendship. A test was given to participants to evaluate their personality traits, and it was deduced that individuals with darker personality traits were more likely to engage in shorter relationships and remain friends with exes for strategic reasons.

So basically, if you’re someone who finds yourself telling your friends that you just can’t imagine not having your ex in your life, maybe you have some stuff to work out. Or maybe you just aren’t quite ready to give up that free Netflix account.
