Would Klay Thompson Really Consider Taking A Pay Cut To Remain With The Warriors?
In July, Kevin Durant took a pay cut to keep the Golden State Warriors' core intact.
Well, fellow Warriors' All-Star Klay Thompson recently revealed that he, too, would be willing to take a discounted deal for his next contract with the defending NBA championship squad ... just not as much as KD did.
"If it's a few million ... it's a blessing whatever contract I sign. I would definitely consider it cause I don't want to lose anybody," Thompson told The Athletic as reported by CBS Sports.
That's exciting news for the Warriors and their fans, but just know that Klay's discount won't be as generous as the one KD gave the team.
"I don't make as much as Kevin off the court," Thompson told The Athletic.
USA Today reported that KD could have made roughly $9.5 million more had he gone for a max contract with the Warriors.
With Steph Curry having signed a five-year extension worth over $200 million this offseason, the Warriors managed to keep its core of All-Stars, including KD and Draymond Green, intact for the next few years. The Warriors could shore up and extend Thompson's contract next year, when he could become a free agent and go after maximum money.
The fact that he's going on record to say he's willing to take a pay cut is huge.
