This Officer Took An 8-Year-Old To McDonald's After No One Picked Him Up From School On His Birthday
A 28-year-old officer in Wisconsin brought people to tears after it was reported he took an 8-year-old boy out for his birthday when no one picked him up from school.
On Monday, Darryl Robinson of the Green Bay Police Department received a call from Howe Elementary School about a student who had no one to pick him up from school. Robinson was informed by school officials that the boy's mother was incarcerated and no other family members were on the emergency contact list.
Robinson knew the unidentified child from a previous child custody incident between the boy's grandmother and mother, reported Buzzfeed News.
"There was a lot of conflict between the family, but he's a happy, honest kid and easy to talk to," Robinson told Buzzfeed. "He has a good head on his shoulders despite what's been going on."
Robinson learned the boy was in the care of his grandfather, who could not pick him up due to an injury.
When Robinson realized it was the boy's birthday, he asked the grandfather for permission to take him out. Robinson took the young boy for a ride in his police car, gifted him with some Green Bay Packer cards, and took him to McDonald's.
"He was in good spirits and was really excited when he got his Happy Meal; they still put the toys in there," Robinson told Buzzfeed. "He thought it was cool to ride in the squad car and seemed happy to have an afternoon like that."

Many people found the actions of Officer Robinson incredibly inspiring
After the story was shared over 3,000 times, many people who have known Robinson said he's always been a genuinely good person
Robinson plans to keep in contact with the 8-year-old just as an officer did with him when he was a child. On one of Robinson's birthdays, the officer brought him candy and was always available to talk.
"We grew up on the opposite of the river but it's the same neighborhood and it's easy to get into trouble if you don't have anyone to connect with in a positive way," Robinson told Buzzfeed. "You don’t know how it’s going to turn out. If it wasn’t for that officer I don’t know if I would be doing this today."
