'America in Danger': The GOP Controlled House Is Getting Bashed for Overturning Obama Bill Restricting Gun Sales to Mentally Ill

"Guns don't kill people. Congress does."

On Thursday, the GOP-controlled House of Representatives passed a vote which will overturn an Obama-introduced rule to keep guns away from mentally ill people, reported CNN.

The regulation, put forth by the Obama Administration during his final days, required the Social Security Administration to disclose information on individuals not able to manage their disability benefits because of mental illness. This information was to be disclosed to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

Although the regulation was put forward to limit gun purchases by those deemed mentally ill, many Republicans criticized the bill for its restrictions on an individual’s due process.

The vote in the house concluded with the standing 235-180 in favor of the repeal.

"The House charged ahead with an extreme, hastily written, one-sided measure that would make the American people less safe," Rep. Elizabeth Esty said, according to The Hill. Esty represents Newtown, Connecticut, where a mentally ill man took a weapon into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed children and teachers.

  • Public outrage immediately followed news of the vote

  • The vote made many feel that the people running our country have too many ulterior motives

  • After massive shootings, the GOP has always focused on mental health issues

  • Yet this act to make it easier for mentally ill people to own a weapon is illogical
