CupcakKe Announces Retirement From Music And Says She’s Pulling Her Music From All Streaming Platforms

“I’ve decided to let go of music because I feel as though I’m corrupting the youth.”

The last 48 hours have been an emotional whirlwind for Chicago rap artist CupcakKe that culminated with her abrupt announcement that she’ll be completely retiring from music.

  • Following a series of controversial tweets aimed towards Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes and K-pop star Chungha, CupcakKe took to Instagram Live Saturday evening (Sept. 22) where she confessed that her recent tweets were intended to attract attention before announcing her retirement.

  • Speaking directly to the camera, CupcakKe tearfully informed her fans that she is canceling the rest of her 10K Tour and will be pulling all of her music from streaming platforms. In the 18-minute video, the 22-year-old rapper, born Elizabeth Eden Harris, is visibly distressed as she struggles to hold back her tears during multiple parts of her message. In the heart-wrenching visual, CupcakKe is perched on the edge of a bed shrouded in a thick white comforter in what appears to be a hotel room.

  • "Recently, the past night and today, I just been sporadic and it's because I wanted to get as much attention as possible to let y'all know that I will no longer be doing music,” she said. “All of my music will be coming off of every platform.”

“I’ve decided to give up,” CupcakKe continued before clarifying that she decided to retire from her music career because  she feels as if she is “corrupting the youth.” The rapper recalls seeing a video of a 13-year-old dancing to one of her songs that made her uncomfortable. “I just decided that that’s it. I don’t want to do music no more.”

  • “I just want out the music industry…..I feel as though I’m corrupting them with my songs,” she said as she momentarily choked up with tears before collecting herself. She further iterated that seeing young kids of all ages singing along to her sexually explicit lyrics on the tour did not sit well with her conscious and left her deeply unsettled.

  • She also declared she is leaving Twitter and Instagram for good. As of now, her official Twitter account (@cupcakke_rapper) has been deleted while her Instagram account (@cupcakkeafreakk) is still active although every single post has been removed.

In the latter half of the Instagram Live, CupcakKe revealed that she had a gambling addiction at one point and had lost $700,000 in the casino. Together, all these factors led to her decision to quit music.

Oakland rap talent Chika chimed in with an uplifting message of support amid the storm of hateful tweets being directed at CupcakKe afterward.

  • “CupcakKe, you are allowed to take a break. You are allowed to choose your narrative. You are allowed to rebrand. You are loved. You are supported. You are gifted and you are f**king beautiful. Take the time you need. ‘Cuz we need you here. I’m here if you need to talk,” the 18-year-old penned on Twitter. In a follow-up tweet, she called on fans to send CupcakKe some love.

  • The Twitter uproar and announcement previously evoked concern from fans concerned about her wellbeing, especially considering that CupcakKe has struggled with mental health issues in the past. But fortunately, they are following Chika’s suit and sending love to the Ephorize rapper amid the announcement.
