Deion Sanders Playfully Rejects Son Shilo’s Jersey After Buccaneers Debut
Shilo Sanders tried to give his father, Deion Sanders, a special gift but he was playfully curved by the football legend.
Shilo, who is currently in his rookie season as a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, made his NFL preseason debut this past Saturday (August 9). The date is also special because it was also Deion’s 58th birthday.
After his game, Shilo told reporters he tried to give his father his No. 28 Buccaneers jersey, according to Sports Illustrated. The current head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, declined the offer because he seemingly wants his son to “produce” more on the field and earn his stripes.
“He didn’t want it,” the 25-year-old jokingly said to a group of reporters.
“He’s a Hall of Famer. He expects 30 times more. I’m gonna give it to my mom, though. I gotta get like three picks or something for him.”
Shilo performed well in his debut as Tampa Bay beat the Tennessee Titans with a score of 29-7.
Tampa Bay coach, Todd Bowles, gave Shilo his props for such a great opening season.
“He played tough,” the coach said.
“I thought he went in and did a heck of a job. He had some good tackles inside. He had a pressure on the quarterback as well. He did some good coverage things, so he did a good job when he was in there.”
The rookie football player was able to get one solo tackle and a viral quarterback hit during the game when he was added in the second half.
Shilo also shared his thoughts on his debut to Yahoo! Sports.
“First game as a Buccaneer felt good,” he told the outlet.
“Just getting my feet wet.”
