Ciara Discusses the ‘Taboo’ of Female Singers Becoming Mothers
Becoming a mother strengthened Ciara’s impact as an artist and businesswoman.
The R&B vocalist and mother of four was a guest on the Tuesday, May 20 episode of the podcast ‘Baby, This Is Keke Palmer.’ Around the 29-minute mark of the episode, host Keke Palmer asked whether Ciara felt an expectation to change her sound as a mother and wife. Ciara shares three children, Sienna, 8, Win, 4, and 16-month-old Amora with her husband, Russell Wilson, while she also has an 11-year-old son with her ex-fiancé, rapper Future.
“You know it's funny,” Ciara began. “I used to be scared to live my life in full for many years because in our industry it was taboo. To have a baby made you all of a sudden become old or like, it’s a wrap.”
But Ciara acknowledged that female entertainers “have to live” despite settling down. “We're
human just like anyone else in that regard and that to me makes my life more full,” she continued.
“To me, there’s no greater feeling than waking up with the love of my life every day and knowing that he's there and knowing that we're building a family together, and we're building a legacy together,” she continued.
After naming off the work that she and her husband are doing to elevate their family, Ciara concluded by saying she feels “empowered.”
Among her ventures, Ciara is readying her eighth studio album, CiCi, which releases in July.
