This Is How DJ Mustard Dropped 100 Pounds This Year

Mustard dropped some gems on his weight-loss journey.

DJ Mustard carried the weight of some of our favorite rap and R&B hits of 2011 and beyond since the California native made his way into hip-hop’s hitmakers’ circle.

From Tinashe’s “2 On” to YG’s “Who Do You Love?,” Mustard has made some huge changes to the game since emerging alongside key players of the industry. But the changes to his health, according to his candid conversation with the ladies of daytime talk show The Real, have scored even greater results for the DJ.

If his eye for fitting into designer gear wasn’t enough inspiration, being able to keep up with the hyper-energized bustle of his young son definitely was.

“I like dressing in designer clothes and it’s hard to buy them if you are overweight,” he revealed. “And I got tired of like going in the stores and then it was like I couldn’t fit in anything. And overall, I wanted to be healthy. And you know, my son runs around the house and I wanted to be able to catch him.”

Teaming up with a doctor who specializes in weight loss, Mustard dropped over 100 pounds with a strict diet. “I did a lot of water. I did no carbs at all. Basically no sugar.” He also shared that he had previously spoken with fellow California flag-bearer Dr. Dre about his plan to shed the extra pounds.

“I didn’t start working out until I started seeing results. And I was like I got to keep this going.”

Mustard is next up in the notable (and noticeable) active lifestyle changes for hip-hop after Gucci Mane’s inspirational post-prison glow-up. Guwop dropped 50 pounds from what he said came from his pre-prison sipping lean and a regular medley of drugs in his diet. The debut of his new physique and persona was such a drastic change that fans even drew clone conspiracy theories for Atlanta’s trap pioneer.
