The string of sexual violation allegations against Def Jam co-founder and famed music executive Russell Simmons has now extended to 11 women, all of which come from different corners of Hollywood.
Beginning with model Keri Claussen Khalighi’s in-depth recollection published by the Los Angeles Times of what she claimed was sexual assault from Simmons, screenwriter Jenny Lumet followed suit with her story. Thereafter, the New York Times published the accounts of four more women, one of which is not industry-affiliated and claims to have met Simmons upon a chance encounter at 2014’s Art Basel in Miami, who accused him of sexual assault at distinct locations. The L.A. Times returned with testimonies from an additional five women, including actress and comedian Amanda Seales, Sherri Hines of old school hip-hop group Mercedes Ladies, and massage therapist Erin Beattie.
Simmons has refused to remain silent on the accusations, and has published his own statements defending against the women’s’ statements. And now that the controversy is continuing to grow, he’s asserted that he will also be tackling the allegations headfirst.
