2022 NAACP Image Awards: Forest Whitaker’s Top 5 Movie Roles
Renowned actor Forest Whitaker is one of the most talented and versatile actors of our time, having starred in some of the most successful and riveting films ever, including Marvel’s Black Panther and The Last King of Scotland. Following his film debut in the 1982 classic Fast Times At Ridgemont High, the actor quickly gained a reputation for fearlessly taking on various film genres, executing one role better than the last.
Whitaker has been nominated for “Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series” at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards for his role as Bumpy Johnson in Godfather of Harlem. However, before we can celebrate a night of excellence and outstanding performances, here are five of Whitaker’s top movie roles.
Zuri - Black Panther
Whitaker was one of many critically acclaimed actors in the Marvel megahit Black Panther. The thespian gave a memorable performance as Zuri, Wakanda's spiritual leader, holder of dark secrets, and close confidant of the king.
Burnham - Panic Room
Whitaker plays Burnham, a sympathetic thief in this David Fincher-directed film about a woman and daughter, played by Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart. They lock themselves in a panic room when armed burglars break into their homes.
Cecil Gaines - The Butler
Not many actors can move an audience without saying much, but Whitaker executed that beautifully in his role as Cecil Gaines, a real-life White House butler. The latter served under five different presidents and had a first-hand look at many of America’s most pivotal moments in history.

The Crying Game
The actor’s supporting role in the popular 90s film, most notable for its storyline twist, made for a significant career boost for the star. His performance as a British soldier made him a strong contender for various roles.
