Things still aren't settled between Beanie Sigel and his old friend Jay-Z and, in a new interview, the former Roc-a-Fella stalwart explains why. According to Sigel, after he was released from jail in 2005, he received a lucrative offer from 50 Cent to sign up with G-Unit. But Jay blocked him from getting out of his Def Jam contract, thereby forcing him to leave the offer on the table.
"When I first got out of jail, I had a meeting, a situation that was already lined up and set up where I could've had [a deal] over there," Sigel said of the potential G-Unit deal. "He wanted to give me a label, a whole label deal ... and a whole lot of money too."
Beans was still contractually signed to Def Jam at the time, where Jay-Z was serving as president. But when he approached his old partner to ask him to let him go and pursue what he perceived as a better opportunity for himself, Jay was resistant.
"I went to Jay like, 'Let me get this [record deal] situation,' and he was like, 'I can't let you go.' He was like, 'No.' He was like, 'Nah, let me see what I could do.' That 'see what I could do' turned into another two years," Sigel said.
Previously, Beans recanted on a perceived apology for disses he has since lobbed in Hov's direction.
"I felt the way I felt, and I still feel the way I feel," he said.
