Madonna caught a lot of flack after her Prince tribute during the 2016 Billboard Music Awards Sunday Night (May 22).

Along with what looked like a pretty uninspired performance, fans pointed out that she probably shouldn’t have been someone to give a tribute, as she never met Prince, nor seemed to know his music all too well. Now, she’s responding to the critics and took to Instagram to let everyone know that they can do whatever tribute they want whenever.

“Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to,” she captioned in the post. “Whatever your age Gender or skin Color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!!!! I love Prince 4 ever.”

Shortly after, in true Madonna fashion, she posted a video of her dancing, along with the caption, “This is my ‘I’m not your b***h don't hang your sh*t on me’ Dance," in quoting her 1994 hit "Human Nature."

During her tribute Madonna performed “Nothing Compares 2 U" and “Purple Rain,” which included a surprise appearance from Stevie Wonder, who held her hand while they sang the legendary hit together.

Madonna was just the last of a slew of artists that night who paid tribute to Prince, who passed away on April 21. Wiz Khalifa, The Weeknd and Seal also made remarks about or performed a tribute in honor of him.
