Say His Name: We Remember Trayvon Martin Five Years After He Was Murdered

"Rest in Peace Trayvon Martin. Forever."

Tomorrow (February 26) will mark the five year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s murder. He was a simple 17-year-old boy however his skin color and hoodie tragically made him the martyr for modern injustice.

  • His murderer, George Zimmerman, would eventually go through trial and get acquitted. This, along with subsequent similar murder cases, some involving police, would help spawn the Black Lives Matter movement and spark protests in Ferguson, Missouri, Baltimore, and Baton Rouge, among others.

Twitter has been remembering Trayvon Martin for the past week or so. Even though it’s been five years, his death still seems fresh. His name is one that can be used when injustice is the topic of discussion.

“My heart still hurts ..they try to forgive but don't forget what happened and it only continues to get worst don't forget @TrayvonMartin,” a Twitter user tweeted. “Rest in Peace Trayvon Martin. Forever,” another wrote.

May he rest in peace. Check out social media’s tribute to Trayvon Martin below.
