La La Anthony Explains Why Filming Sex Scenes Is Anything But Sexy
LaLa Anthony is shutting down any misconceptions about what goes down when it comes to sex scenes in television and film.
During her interview with Speedy Morman, she shared that while filming a sex scene isn’t a walk in the park, due to the set and production being there while it’s happening, the “BMF” actress let the host know that there is an intimacy coordinator on set.
“The great thing about being on set is you have an intimacy coordinator, to make sure you feel comfortable and everything is good,” she shared.
She then mentions the number one question she tends to get asked about love scenes.
“I get asked all the time ‘are they really f*cking?’” she jokingly said.
“What do you guys think, like you really believe there’s just like a bed and people just going at? (laughs). This is not a porno, this is scripted television. No they’re not really f*cking.”
She adds that the process is actually far less glamorous than it appears on screen.
“It’s super choreographed. If you were on set watching it, you’d probably think, ‘Okay, this isn’t as sexy as it looks.’ It’s more like, ‘Put your hand here. Move it up. Now pause. Cut. Turn this way.’”
Even with professional guidance, she admits it can still be uncomfortable.
“It’s very awkward. That’s why you hope your scene partner is cool, patient, and understanding—it makes all the difference. I’ve been lucky to have great partners who made it feel safe and respectful.”
And while “The Chi” actress keeps it professional on screen, she plays it a little more mysterious in real life.
When Morman brought up a recent TikTok post where viewers spotted a man’s arm casually sliding into the frame, the “Power” actress smiled and leaned into the mystery.
“Sometimes it’s nice to tease certain things,” she said with a grin. “Just a little peek—but not too much.”
For her, privacy is power, especially in the early stages of romance.
“I think it’s good to keep things private until you feel like you're ready for the world to know about it. Any time the world gets involved too early, that's when things get messy.”
She’s seen how public attention can complicate what was once easy and exciting.
“A lot of times we get so excited when we meet somebody that it’s like, ‘I want to post. I want the world to know. I'm so into this.’ And then the comments come and the phone calls and then you're like, ‘This just doesn't feel as good as it did when we were keeping it private.’"
