Robert Griffin III To Publish ‘Tell-All’ Book About ‘Dysfunctional’ Washington Football Team
Robert Griffin III, the one-time phenom quarterback of what is now the Washington Football Team, is celebrating the tenth anniversary of his NFL entrance by publishing an exposé about his former squad.
The former NFL Rookie of the Year unveiled an upcoming book on Tuesday (November 30) titled Surviving Washington. RGIII promises it will shed light on "one of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports." Griffin spent the first four years of his career with the Washington Football Team, and according to a tweet posted by the Griffin, he’ll provide the "unfiltered truth" about the team in what's being marketed as an "explosive tell-all from (the) former franchise savior."
Griffin is currently working as an NFL analyst with ESPN following his release from the Baltimore Ravens in January. In September, he told reporter Adam Schefter he’d “love to go back” to Washington in the wake of starter Ryan Fitzpatrick’s injury. He even noted it would make a “great story” to come “full circle” with his first team.
The tables have seemed to turn now, however, as Griffin says he’ll “walk you through one of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports" in his new novel written with former New York Daily News reporter Gary Myers.
"Every experience that I've ever had has made me a better husband, a better father and a better player," Griffin said in a video posted to his Twitter account. "(But) I'm gonna tell you the truth about what happened in that playoff game in 2012 against Seattle. I'm gonna detail the medical mismanagement that I received during my time in Washington. I'm gonna open your eyes to the sexual harassment that permeated the walls of that building. And give you a deep dive into a power struggle between one of the most powerful coaches in all of sports and an owner that many of you want gone. They say, 'The truth will set you free,' so here it is, unfiltered."
The injury Griffin is talking about is in reference to the ACL and LCL injuries he played through during Washington’s 2012 NFC Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks, despite team doctor James Andrews reportedly advising the team to not rush him back from a previous knee injury.
Surviving Washington is slated for an August 2022 release. You can preorder it here.
