Robert Griffin III: Unfortunate My Name's Getting Used as Click Bait

Washington QB star says "best NFL quarterback" comment was taken out of context.

Robert Griffin III became the butt of people's jokes earlier this week for saying he felt like he's the best quarterback in the NFL.

But speaking to reporters, including ESPN, on Tuesday, the Washington QB said the media just ran with his comments for click bait to gain more readers.

"I know what I meant. I think everyone in this circle [of reporters] knows what I meant," Griffin said. "It's unfortunate that my name keeps getting used for headlines for people to click on stories. I know what I want to be, and I know what I strive to be. I'm not going to make any apologies for that."

Redskins coach Jay Gruden wasn't troubled by RGIII's comments at all.

"I didn't make a lot out of it, you guys did," Gruden said. "All players want to strive to be the best, and that doesn't change. DeSean Jackson said he was uncoverable. Whether he is or isn't, that's how he feels, and Robert has high goals for himself. I don't fault anyone for having high goals. We don't want anyone that strives to be average. The key thing is, he said he has to go out and prove it. We all have to go out and prove it."

Griffin has plenty to prove in the upcoming 2015 season, considering he threw for 1,694 yards and four touchdowns with six interceptions in only nine games played last year in a losing season. That and ESPN ranked him as the 28th quarterback in the NFL in the bottom tier of all league QBs.
