LSU Interim Football Coach Brad Davis Living The Dream And Makes Very Honest Admission

When he became the first Black person to be the team’s head coach – if only for a short time, it was like in storybook, he says.

LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis served as interim head coach for the Tigers’ Texas Bowl matchup against Kansas State. And while the game ended up being a 42-20 loss, Davis’ admission prior to the game is creating headlines.

Tuesday night’s (January 4) bowl game marked Davis’ first appearance as a collegiate head coach following the team’s firing of Ed Orgeron, and immediately after the game, he went back to being the offensive line coach in anticipation of former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly taking over the reins of the program.

Per ESPN, Davis made an astonishing admission and realization about his short-lived dream role.

“At midnight I go back to being a pumpkin. The Cinderella story is over,” he said, according to the sports news network.

In early December, Kelly announced that he would be retaining Davis as the team’s O-line coach. Davis has several years of SEC coaching experience, including stints as the offensive line coach for Florida (2017), Missouri (2018-19) and Arkansas (2020). He joined LSU prior to the 2021 season in June.
