Man Convicted Of Murdering NBA Star Lorenzen Wright
A second person was convicted in the murder of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright.
According to CNN, Billy Ray Turner was found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy.
Wright’s mother, Deborah Marion, said in reaction to the verdict, "Thank you, Jesus! He can suffer like I've been suffering all this time, without my son. It's a celebration for me."
Judge Lee Coffee Turner, 51, to life in prison for the murder conviction.
Turner was reportedly a deacon at Mt. Olive No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee where Sherra Wright-Robinson, Wright’s ex-wife, was a former member.
Wright’s body was found on July 28, 2010 in suburban Memphis, Tennessee just days after the 34-year-old former Memphis Grizzly and Cleveland Cavalier was reported missing. Prosecutors claimed Sherra Wright-Robinson was the mastermind behind the crime and recruited Billy Ray Turner. The two were allegedly in a romantic relationship. Wright-Robinson reportedly lured her husband, who was visiting from Atlanta, to a field and he was ambushed.
The motive is unclear, however, Wright-Robinson received $1 million from her ex-husband's life insurance policy.
Lorenzen Wright averaged 8 points and over 6 rebounds per game during his 13-year career. He also played for six different teams during that time and was a Memphis native.
