The name of music executive and Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star Safaree has been married to several controversies in 2017, but none like the one concerning an old video the internet dug up of him twerking away to his heart’s content while on stage.

In his recent visit with the hosts of Everyday Struggle, DJ Akademiks expressed his (and everyone else’s) confusion with the video that, according to Safaree, is from 19 years ago. In the footage, SB is pop-locking and dropping in a white T-shirt with his hands on his knees and head locked back in all his twerk glory.

“First of all, let me explain, I was 17 years old at the time when that happened” he said. “And back in the days when we used to do the [Flex N Brooklyn showcase], that would make the girls go crazy. I would do that s**t and I would leave and have every girl in there on me.”

Safaree added that his twerk sessions even boosted his popularity in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He doesn’t share a name for whatever the dance move was, but let him be clear — it was not twerking.

“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about,” he said to Akademiks before Joe Budden switched the conversation to a missed threesome opportunity on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood.
