'The #MuslimBan Is Racist And Horrific,' People Are Slamming Trump For Refugee Ban Signed On Holocaust Remembrance Day

Many also noted the executive order applies to countries not linked to Donald Trump's international business empire.

Yesterday (January 27) was Holocaust Remembrance Day and in honor of it Donald Trump decided to ban immigration from seven Muslim-majority nations and suspend all refugee admissions for the next 120 days “to ensure that those approved for refugee admission do not pose a threat to the security and welfare of the United States.”

The Muslim ban and refugee intake suspension has people upset for many reasons, but perhaps most outrageous were the Muslim-majority countries that were spared. Friday’s executive order suspends the issuing of U.S. visas or travel permits to people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, however no American has been killed on U.S. soil by citizens of those countries between 1975 and 2015, according to the conservative-leaning Cato Institute.

Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed by citizens from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Egypt, however those countries were left out of the ban. If security is the Trump Administration’s biggest concern, why not include those countries?

The reason: it’s very likely that those nations, especially Saudi Arabia, were left off the list because of Trump’s extensive business ties with the country. Strange, seeing as how most of the 9/11 attackers were of Saudi decent. Additionally, Indonesia and Azerbaijan were left off the list even though both countries have documented ties to terrorism.

The executive order, according to Trump, is part of an “extreme vetting” plan to keep out “radical Islamic terrorists.” During the signing of the order Trump exclaimed, “We don’t want them here. We want to ensure that we are not admitting into our country the very threats our soldiers are fighting overseas. We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country, and love deeply our people.”

Protesters are currently making their voices heard in numerous places, including JFK Airport in New York City, among others.

Twitter is also up in arms about the Muslim Ban. “The #MuslimBan is racist and horrific and the fact that it was signed on #HolocaustMemorialDay is not a coincidence and terrifies me,” Scream actress Bex Taylor-Klaus tweeted. “We've lost something very precious. And traded it for a cowardly, foolish illusion of safety,” Producer and writer Adam McKay wrote. “I'm ashamed.”
