HONOLULU (AP) — Nissan says all 300 Hawaii residents who have put down deposits for the Leaf electric car should get a vehicle when the first shipment arrives in January.

Some prospective Leaf owners had been concerned that Nissan wouldn't be able to meet initial demand in Hawaii.

The islands are one of seven U.S. markets where Nissan is introducing the electric car.

Nissan executive Brian Carolin says Hawaii's 300 reservations for the Leaf are the highest per capita of any of U.S. market.

Nissan officials showed off a Leaf car in Honolulu Tuesday during a news conference with Gov. Linda Lingle.

Nissan and Lingle also announced a partnership to promote the development of electric vehicles and charging stations.
