Cardi B Tells David Letterman She Has A ‘Responsibility’ To Share Her Political Views With Fans

The superstar rapper talks in a Netflix series about using her platform for political activism.

In a preview of her interview on Netflix, Cardi B reveals to David Letterman that she feels a “responsibility” to use her platform to share her political views.

“I think people in your position have a strength in terms of political activism and changing the world and changing the way people feel and think, not only about themselves, but the problems of the world at large,” Letterman says to Cardi in their sit-down for his My Next Guest Needs No Introduction series that premiered May 20 on Netflix.

Cardi explains to Letterman that she doesn’t inject politics into her music. Instead, she uses her platform for activism.

“I have used my platform even when I was a dancer because you might think that people are not looking, but they are,” she adds.

During the 2020 presidential election, Cardi jumped on an Instagram Live with Bernie Sanders after the Vermont senator dropped out of the Democratic primary and supported Joe Biden’s candidacy.

“A lot of people like the youth, they don’t rock with Joe Biden, because he’s conservative. I want you to explain to my platform, why are you endorsing him?" Cardi asks Sanders, whom she fondly calls “Uncle Bernie.”

“I mean, I’m a hood chick, and I’m from the Bronx,” Cardi tells Letterman. “A lot of people relate to me and follow me because they want to see how I’m dressed. They want to see my lifestyle. I feel like I have a responsibility to also share to them like, hey, while you here and you’re checking my outfit and checking my music, check out what’s going on over here in this part of the world.”

In addition to Cardi, Letterman interviews five other celebrities for his six-episode fourth season of the Netflix talk show series. They include Kevin Durant, Billie Eilish, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ryan Reynolds, and Will Smith.
