Truer words have never been spoken.

Issa Rae has steading continued to build her brand from her days on YouTube to now being one of the most celebrating burgeoning young actresses in Hollywood with her hit series Insecure.

While she may be a part of the 'it-circle" now, Issa has never forgotten her "awkward" roots of not initially fitting in, and even explained that that characteristic transcended into her adult life. The most beautiful part of that transition, however, is her ability to embrace it and empower other women to do the same.

While accepting her Star Power award at the Black Girls Rock 2017 ceremony, the Jane of all trade gave some powerful tidbits to women who feel like they don't fit in.

"For a long time, I defined myself by what I wasn't," she said. "My life changed when I focused on what I was, what I was good at, what I liked most about myself and what made me stand out. Once I learned to like me more than others did, then I didn't have to worry about being the funniest or the most popular or the prettiest. I was the best me and I only ever tried to be that."

Well said!

Take a look at her hilarious and empowering speech, in full, above.
