Black Women Come To Hilary Duff's Defense After She's Accused Of 'Child Abuse'

"This is not an issue."

Hilary Duff is known for being one of Hollywood's most respected former child stars, having steered clear of scandal throughout her entire career. However, the actress recently came under fire for doing something completely unrelated to her craft.

After posting a photo of her adorable baby girl, Banks Violet Bair, the Younger star received a ton of criticism from mothers who claimed she pierced the 8-month-old's ears too early.

Take a look at the post, below:

  • Unbothered by the unsolicited critiques of her parenting, Duff took to her Instagram Story to respond, writing, "Yes we pierced her ears."

The backlash saw many take things a bit too far, with some even accusing the former Lizzie McGuire star of "child abuse."

"I can't believe someone who seemed so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn't for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes," one follower commented. "The risks are unreal and that throbbing pain in her ears no matter how happy and looked after your child is just isn't justified in my eyes."

While the critiques kept pouring in, Black women came to Duff's defense, with many explaining that this practice is nothing out of the ordinary.

  • According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, ear piercing for cosmetic reasons at any age is completely safe.
