‘The Wire’ Creator David Simon And Star Wendell Pierce Blast Donald Trump Over Racist Baltimore Comments

"Donald Trump is a permanent stain on our land."

David Simon is best known for creating the acclaimed HBO series The Wire, which was set in Baltimore. Now, he is one of the many folks who is coming to the defense of the city and Rep. Elijah Cummings in the wake of a disgusting attack by Donald Trump.

Taking to Twitter, Simon, who was an author and journalist prior to creating The Wire, called Trump an "empty-suit, race-hating fraud" and a "simplistic, racist moron" in response to the current POTUS taking aim at Cummings by labeling his Baltimore district a "disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess."

  • In another tweet, Simon reiterated his love and loyalty to the city with the hashtag #WEAREBALTIMORE.

"This is a city of good Americans who deserve more than a grifting, hollow and self-absorbed failure of a man as their president," he tweeted. "@realDonaldTrump is a permanent stain on our land."

  • Former The Wire cast member Wendell Pierce also chimed in in the wake of the controversy, echoing Simon's sentiment that Trump's rhetoric is uninspired and unfounded.

"I agree with you. What idiot President has failed so many districts in this country," he tweeted in response to Trump's heavily criticized tweet. "No infrastructure improvements, trade wars that hurt American farmers, and dividing the country. What moronic, idiot, corrupt President could that be? You @realDonaldTrump You're a loser."

  • He concluded his thoughts by stressing that he spent some of the best years of his life in Baltimore, thanks to "the people, the spirit of self determination, perseverance, and the AMERICAN aesthetic of willful optimism in the face of adversity."

He ended his tweet with one last swipe at Trump, saying the city is filled with great character, "character you know nothing about, Trump. 'You Happy Now, B***h?' Bunk."

  • Simon and Pierce's defense come after CNN anchor Victor Blackwell teared up while defending Baltimore, his hometown, in response to Trump's slanderous comments.
