Homecoming, Beyoncé’s concert film that captured her epic Coachella performance, was a tour de force that broke ratings records and shifted the culture. As such, it was celebrated with six Emmy nominations. But, somehow, the artfully created documentary was snubbed in all six categories — and even lost out to Carpool Karaoke in one.
Bey was not present at Saturday night’s (September 14) Creative Arts Emmys, the first of a two-night event where a number of primetime TV awards are being handed out before next week’s Emmys ceremony on September 22.
Beyoncé was nominated for six Emmys, including outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), outstanding costumes for variety, non-fiction or reality programming; outstanding directing for a variety special; outstanding music direction; outstanding production design for a variety special and outstanding writing for a variety special.
Many expected the superstar singer to take home an Emmy for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) for her Netflix documentary Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, however she’s reportedly lost out to James Cordon’s Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live from Liverpool, among others.
Homecoming went home without an award, losing to the aforementioned Carpool Karaoke for best variety special, but it also did not win over RuPaul's Drag Race for best costumes for variety, nonfiction or reality programming, Springsteen on Broadway for best directing for a variety special, Fosse/Verdon for best music direction, Rent for outstanding production design for a variety special, and Hannah Gadsby: Nanette for best writing for a variety special.
The latest snubs make Beyoncé zero for eight at the Emmy Awards. Her visual album Lemonade was nominated — but not awarded — in 2016 for Emmys in the categories of outstanding variety special and outstanding directing for a variety special.
After learning of the snubs, the outraged was immediate. Many pointed out that Beyoncé and her staff of hundreds spent eight months to prepare for her legendary 2018 Coachella performance, while James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke is a, shall we say, much simpler concept.

In what world does James Corden’s go-pro win in a technical category when Beyonce literally made a film explaining her technical production??

It’d be easier if the industry powers that be had a back bone and just said “we are white supremacists.”
