5 Blackest, Keeping It Real Moments From Netflix's 'Love Is Blind'

The new reality dating show has everyone talking.

Love Is Blind is Netflix's latest original reality show that has social media going crazy with its insane premise and plot twists. It's more than just a water cooler conversation starter. Men, women, and everyone in between seems to be obsessed with the show and the idea of finding out if love is really blind.

Contestants partner up after meeting in the show's "dating pods," where they can hear, but not see, each other. Connecting only on an emotional level, the new couples then have to become engaged in order to actually meet face-to-face. After a few weeks of being together in the physical world, the couples must then decide, standing at the alter on their wedding day whether or not they really want to commit to a lifetime of marriage, proving once and for all that love is blind.

Each episode is going to make you want to create a group text with your besties to talk about what you think will happen next. Get the popcorn ready and clear the rest of your afternoon because what you're about to see is an experiment that will make you question the difference between love and lust. And in the mean time, we picked five of our favorite Black moments we know you're going to love. Enjoy!

  1. Papa Speed

One of the most anticipated moments in the show is when Lauren Speed brings home a white man to meet her father, or as she calls him, Papa Speed. As the first white guy she's ever dated, there was almost no doubt that the first interaction would be uncomfortable.

Papa Speed asked Lauren's new man, "Have you ever been in a room full of Black people?"

Gasp! His answer is enough for you to keep watching.

  2. Emotional Black Men

During the time the cast spent in the "pods," they were forced to connect with people on deeper, more emotional levels. Carlton Morton talked about his difficulty being vulnerable as a Black man, a subject that's become more relevant in the Black community today.

“Boys don’t cry” is “constantly conditioned in Black men's heads since we're little boys. I have had to learn to open up and it's okay to be sensitive and emotional and vulnerable.”

  3. Black Makeup Artists

We've all heard the upsetting stories of television and movie sets not having hairstylists or makeup artists who knows how to do our hair and makeup. It was more than refreshing to see the shocked and happy look on Lauren's face when she walks in and sees Black stylists ready to prep her for her big wedding day.

Shout out to Netflix for making sure she not only looked on point but for picking the right people to help her do so.

  4. Lauren's Bonnet

Ladies, we know it's a top rule to wrap your hair right before bed and Lauren was not about to switch it up on her first night in person with her fiancé. She took her makeup off and hopped into bed proudly with her bonnet on.

She made a relatable comment about how wearing a bonnet isn't always the greatest when it comes to intimate moments, but it is what it is!

And the best part.....her man, actually understanding, followed up with, "I love your bonnet."

    Keep that energy!

  5. Carlton and Diamond

Arguably the most talked about moment from Love Is Blind involves the show's only Black couple, Carlton Morton and Diamond Jack. The two met in the pods, fell in love and got engaged. But Carlton has a big secret about himself that he didn't share with Diamond until after she accepted his engagement.

When the truth comes out, a huge debate sparks on who handled the situation the right way. This couple definitely gave the show some eye-raising moments.
