One Year Ago Today Chadwick Boseman Passed Away

Lupita Nyong'o, Viola Davis, and more pay tribute.

On August 28, 2020, Chadwick Boseman passed away, making it one year since he tragically succumbed to a four-year battle with colon cancer. He was 43.

The famed actor never publicly shared his diagnosis and even filmed movies while carrying the disease.

The South Carolina native left his mark by playing some of the most iconic Black figures in history, including Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get On Up. He also played Black Panther in the Ryan Coogler-directed film and the Avengers franchise.

Numerous celebrities, including his Black Panther co-star Lupita Nyong'o, paid tribute to Boseman with some touching social media posts.

"I did not know that I could miss both his laughter and his silence in equal measure. I do. I do... One year after his passing, the memory of @chadwickboseman remains this alive in me," the actress wrote alongside a photo of them laughing.

  • Viola Davis also posted a behind-the-scenes photo of them on the set of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Boseman’s final film.

    "This day last year you left this earth and us. Man you are missed!!! 💔🙏🏿❤," she captioned the pic.

  • Recently, Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward paid tribute to her late husband at the Stand Up to Cancer event by performing a beautiful rendition of “I’ll Be Seeing You.”
