Fabolous, The Game and More React to the Alton Sterling Shooting

Hip-hop is fed up.

You can add Alton Sterling’s name to the growing and highly questionable list of police shootings. He was killed by law enforcement while selling CDs outside of a convenience store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Tuesday night (July 5).

Footage shows police pinning Sterling down to the ground. One officer is then heard yelling “He’s got a gun,” following up with the threat, "You f**king move, I swear to God.” Gunshots followed, killing the 37-year-old father of three.

Hip-hop, as usual, reacted to the incident. The Game’s Instagram post about the shooting was probably the most poignant call to action.

“All we gone do is repost it & type "SMH" over & over again huh ?? Then we gone put #JusticeForAltonSterling & #BlackLivesMatter hashtags on Instagram & pretend that's us taking action huh ???” he captioned the post, which featured a video of the Sterling shooting. “What happened to the generation of people who stood together, held hands & took to the streets peacefully or violently if it had to come to that & wouldn't move or be detoured from that stance until real results were handed over to us ?!?!? Huh ???”

Fabolous continued the tribute by taking to Instagram with the words “6 shots” and a caption reading “2 white Police Officers killed Alton Sterling while he was standing outside a store selling CD's… When is America & the judicial system that's suppose to protect us, gonna make these officers who are killing black men take responsibility for what's going on. This is literally getting away with MURDER & it continues to happen #RipAltonSterling.”

Meek Mill also posted a similar sentiment. He put up the same video as Game with the caption, “Executed this man about selling bootleg DVDs! Smh it's only gone get worst! They don't care about us!”

Chuck D, Tyga, Russell Simmons and others also reacted to the death of Alton Sterling. His passing follows a lineage of people like Michael Brown, Walter Scott, Tamir Rice and Samuel Dubose who were all gunned down by authorities under suspicious circumstances.
