Nicki Minaj gave us Asian vibes, latex, a rockstar mullet, a glittery pink horse, YG, 2 Chainz and Big Sean during her 2018 BET Awards performance––so naturally there was much to talk about. And just as you would expect, Black Twitter did a whole lot of talking. From discussions about cultural approapriation, to commentary on her looks, to references to her recent controversial quotes in ELLE Magazine, the Internet hopped on its digital soapbox to express its collective feelings.
Taking to social media, folks credited Nicki for waking up a supposedly "sleepy" audience, zoomed in on laughable audience members, questioned the conversation surrounding Ms. Minaj altogether, and everything in between.
Here are a few reactions to the Head Barbie in Charge:
So is the Asian community gonna scream cultural appropriation about this Nicki Minaj performance at the #BETAwards like how woke Twitter gets mad at every non black female with corn rows? 🤔— Shoboat (@Shobeezy) June 25, 2018

Black people really just hate everything that has to do with Nicki Minaj, this hatred doesn't even make sense. Don't @ me... She gave the best performance I have been longing for from her. #BETAwards— Gladwin Polanski (@GladwinChidi) June 25, 2018
