Mariah Carey hated her season-long judging gig on American Idol for a multitude of reasons. Besides being the “worst experience” she’s ever had, Carey says the beef between her and Nicki Minaj was cooked up by Idol producers.
As the singing competition gears up for its final bow next season, Carey offered up some parting words during a radio interview with Australia's Kyle & Jackie O show this week. When asked if she would come back , she flatly declined. ”Hell, no! Absolutely not, that was the worst experience of my life,” Carey said with a laugh.
"I'm not going to get into what it was. Let's just say, I don't think they had any intentions of us having a good experience through that show." Carey added, “Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool.”
The "Infinity" singer didn't go into detail, even though she was generous with throwing shade. "It's so boring and so fake,” she said of Idol. “I’m sorry I just think it's — when I say it's fake, I mean like you have to make up things to say about people.”
Mimi wasn't a fan of the judging process either. ”Half the time the performances are good and you'd just be like 'It was good.' You feel like ending it there, 'It was really good'..." she said trailing off.
Carey ultimately felt like the focus of the show was misdirected towards her and Minaj versus the aspiring singers. "It should have been about the contestants instead of about some non-existent feud that turned into even more ridiculousness... I would never want to be involved in it again, but everyone else can like it."
So to recap, if Idol producers want the “Elusive Chanteuse” back for a reunion, she's definitely not interested.
