Fellow inmate says he's lucky to be alive.

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle, who is serving a 15-year jail term for trading child pornography and having sex with underage prostitutes, was reportedly attacked by a fellow prisoner in the yard. The family of the man who attacked him says Fogle is lucky to be alive following the vicious beat down.

Both because of his fame and the heinous nature of his crimes, Fogle is undoubtedly a target in prison. Listen to the disturbing revelations that helped put Fogle behind bars:

The man who attacked Fogle, 60-year-old Steven Nigg, reportedly left him with a bloody nose, a scratched neck, and a swollen face. Nigg's nephew said that Fogle was acting like a "big shot," and that spurred Nigg, who is serving time for armed robbery, to confront him. Nigg's nephew Jimmy added, "Jared's lucky he's still alive. My uncle was in a position to kill him. No one was there."

The nephew adds, "He got him down, then walked away. He’s not a violent guy, he doesn’t have a violent history. He’s sending a message, is what he’s doing." He continued saying that Fogle has been "flashing his money around" ever since he got to the prison, and that's what upset his uncle. Jimmy also said his uncle wanted to pay Fogle back for his crimes, "He said these kids [the victims] got dads and uncles and they'd love to do what I just did. I'm doing it for the families. I couldn't help it."

Fogle's earliest possible release isn't until 2029, while Nigg is scheduled for a 2024 release. There has been no mention of moving either prisoner to reduce the likelihood of an attack in the future.
