Police in Minnesota have arrested a 28-year-old man after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 7-year-old girl who lived in the Airbnb where he stayed as a guest over the weekend.
According to Pioneer Press, Derrick Aaron Kinchen, who is from Michigan, has been charged with criminal sexual conduct by the Hennepin County attorney’s office in Minnesota.
Authorities said on September 24, Kinchen was renting a room in a Minnetonka house where the girl’s unidentified father was also living. After Kinchen came home from the wedding, the homeowner reportedly saw him in bed with his daughter.
According to the charges, Kinchen was lying naked in the bed and the girl’s nightgown was pulled up. The father then yelled at Kinchen, who got up and fled.
A search dog was used by police to track down Kinchen, who was hiding in a fishing boat at a neighbor’s house. He was arrested wearing nothing but his suit coat.
Airbnb spokesman Ben Breit issued the following statement to Pioneer Press:
“The reported abhorrent behavior has no place on Airbnb and we will not tolerate it. We are focused on providing our host family with our full support, we are working with the local police to ensure they have our assistance, and we banned this user from our community. Keeping our community safe is the most important thing we do. None of our hosts should ever have to deal with anything like this.”
