Police Look To Question Two Women Regarding New York City Model’s Brutal Murder In Jamaica

Desiree Gibbon's mother says her daughter was killed by "someone she trusted."

The body of Desiree Gibbon was found in Jamaica last Sunday (November 26) and questions are still being asked in regards to what happened.

The family of the 26-year-old New York City woman are now claiming that she was murdered by someone she knew and trusted.

As previously reported, Gibbon was spending a month on her father’s home island and staying at a hotel her grandmother owns in Montego Bay. Her stay there all came to a tragic end though when she was discovered badly beaten and her throat slashed while inside some bushes on the side of the road.

Back in Queens, Gibbon’s mother, Andrea, spoke to reporters. She says she thinks her daughter knew her killer or killers.

“My belief is it was a cold, calculated, planned out murder,” she told CBS New York. “It wasn’t a random act of violence. It is somebody she knew, somebody she trusted, and somebody who betrayed her.” In speaking to ABC13, Andrea says that while Gibbon was a visitor of the island, she still knew a lot of people down there making her suspicious a likely scenario.

“She has family down there,” she said. “She has cousins. She met a lot of new people that she had been hanging out for the last three weeks or so. So, she was comfortable with these new people she had met.” Andrea Gibbon also added that her daughter was especially safe when travelling.

According to Claude Gibbon, Desiree’s uncle, police were looking to question two young women in regards to the case.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to raise money for Gibbon’s family to fly down to Jamaica to retrieve Desiree’s body and have a funeral for her. Their goal, as of Friday afternoon, has well exceeded the $23,000 the requested.
