Photo Of Second-Grader Befriending Crying Autistic Classmate On First Day Of School Goes Viral

Now the two little 8-year-olds are inseparable, “He was kind to me.”

Compassion is a trait 8-year-old Christian Moore appears to have already mastered.

The second-grader quickly took action when he saw a classmate having trouble on their first day of school in Kansas.

What he didn’t know was the boy he was helping, Connor Crites, has autism, which definitely attributed to his first-day-of-school-jitters.

“I saw him on the ground with Connor as Connor was crying in the corner and he was consoling him,” Christian’s mom, Courtney, told the local news

“He grabs his hand and walks him to the front door,” she continued. “We waited until the bell rang and he walked him inside of the school. The rest is history. They have an inseparable bond.”

She celebrated the proud mama moment on Facebook with a pic of Christian holding Connor’s hand as he cried.

“(It’s) an honor to raise such a loving, compassionate child,” Courtney wrote.

When Connor’s mom got wind of the news, she expressed her thanks in a heartfelt message on Facebook.

“Tell your son I said thank you so very much! That little boy he helped is my son and is autistic,” April Crites wrote. “I worry everyday that he is going to get bullied for being different and your son just absolutely warmed my heart. If there were more children like him I wouldn’t worry about such things.”

Connor’s grandmother added to the gratitude, writing, “Thank you so much ma’am for raising such a wonderful child. More parents need to teach their children how to be compassionate.”

Christian’s love and Connor’s reception to his friendship could be a lesson to all of us.

Christian is a Black boy and Connor is a white, disabled boy, and none of that mattered.

“It doesn’t matter color, it doesn’t matter gender, it doesn’t matter disability, and it doesn’t matter anything, just be kind, open your heart… it’s what we need in this world.”

The beauty of their blossoming friendship inspired the Christian & Connor Bridging The Gap Facebook group, which the families created together with the mission, “There is no color in love!”
