We all know Donald Trump is petty, but this latest incident may show why he's among the world’s pettiest.
Just a little backstory: LiAngelo Ball, along with UCLA basketball teammates Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested on shoplifting charges earlier this month.
Trump, who was in China during his 12-day Asia trip, felt like he’d be the cool guy by getting the players off and lobbied Chinese president Xi Jinping for their release, which was granted.
All three subsequently thanked the president, however that apparently wasn’t enough. LiAngelo’s father LaVar reportedly refused to show his gratitude toward Trump, who then went to Twitter to complain and even suggest that it was all a big mistake.
Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 19, 2017
"Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal," Trump tweeted this afternoon (November 19). "I should have left them in jail!"
Twitter had a field day. See their reaction below.
LaVar Ball vs Trump are the sort of surreal moments you thought may never exist, but 2017 this is where we are at.— zaid (@zaid2x) November 19, 2017
“I should have left them in jail”. What a small, petty, vindictive, and self absorbed man you are.— Wade Scot Livingston (@LivingstonWade) November 19, 2017
You should not be President. That would solve everything.— Robert Stribley (@stribs) November 19, 2017
You should have left Sheriff Joe in jail— Sarah Clapp (@SarahClapp) November 19, 2017
As hideous as Trump's statement is, I suspect he's nervous about something other then LeVar.— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) November 19, 2017
More racist dog whistle BS from Trump - first it's black NFL athletes must stand at attention. Now Trump demands a black father worship him or his son should go to jail https://t.co/uiKiSH6kCB— (((DeanObeidallah))) (@Deanofcomedy) November 19, 2017
